He doesn't work for us.

Barry Leslie walks into other people's turnarounds for a living. Which means he has seen a lot of turnaround software.

Barry Leslie, Performance Coach at RLG International, with his quote: one of the best turnaround planning packages I have seen

Barry Leslie is a Performance Coach at RLG International, where he works with operators to optimize turnaround planning and execution. Over the past decade that has meant Cenovus, Shell Scotford, Suncor, NOVA Chemicals, Tengizchevroil and Agrium.

He walks into other people's turnarounds for a living, watches how they run, and helps them run better. Which means he has seen a lot of turnaround software.

He saw EZTRAK in use on the 2024 turnaround at PBF Torrance, and sent us this:

EZTRAK is one of the best turnaround planning packages I have seen. It gives a comprehensive view of the planning process with status at every stage, and builds complete work packages ready for execution — photographs, drawings and supporting documentation included. You can query planning status, material status and package completion, which makes changes and added scope manageable. During execution, the graphical feedback provided timely data that enabled TA leadership to make decisions and manage resources.

The line we'd underline is the last one

Most planning tools are judged on what they produce before the event. Barry is describing something different: information current enough that leadership could act on it while the turnaround was running.

On that Torrance turnaround, those real-time field updates helped eliminate QA/QC bottlenecks, improved field accountability and contributed to the event finishing three shifts early.

That's the part planning software rarely gets credit for, and it's the part that decides whether an event finishes on schedule.
